WHIAAPI and the Atlanta Host Committee welcomes all Press and Media representatives to attend the Summit! NOTE: Media representatives who want to schedule an interview to discuss the effort or wish to cover the event MUST PRE-CREDENTIAL by e-mailing their name, title, organization and contact information to Toby Chaudhuri at [email protected] by 5 p.m. (EST) on Thurs., March 15, 2012.

- 10 am: SUMMIT KICKOFF, Harland Cinema, DUC: Kiran Ahuja, WHIAAPI Executive Director
- 1:00 pm: KEYNOTE SPEECH: Cox Hall: Christopher P. Lu, Cabinet Secretary and Assistant to the President; WHIAAPI Co-Chair
- 1:30 PM: MEDIA AVAILABILITY WITH SR. OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, Cox Hall.
- 2:00 pm: Town Hall Listening Session, Cox Hall: Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan, WHIAAPI Commissioner Hector Vargas, Jr., and Kiran Ahuja
- 3:30 pm: Cox Hall, Closing with Volunteer Photo Opportunity

The Summit will convene principal Obama Administration officials for a day of open dialogue, in which participants from the community and government will work together to create an action plan for empowering the AAPI community. The Summit’s Keynote Speaker is Christopher P. Lu, Cabinet Secretary and Assistant to the President, and Co-Chair of WHIAAPI. Also in attendance will be Kiran Ahuja, WHIAAPI Executive Director; Alex Wan, the first AAPI Atlanta City Council Member, and Hector L. Vargas, WHIAAPI Commission Member. Local AAPI partnering organizations include the Asian American Legal Advocacy Center (AALAC), the Asian American Resource Center (AARC), the Center for Pan Asian Community Services (CPACS), and OCA-Georgia.
Hosted by historic Emory University, our program will feature four morning breakout sessions led by AAPI leaders on the issues of
(1) Immigration & Civil Rights,
(2) Health Care/Mental Health Issues,
(3) Housing and Foreclosures, and
(4) Small Business and Economic Issues for Entrepreneurs.
This will be followed by a FREE LUNCH, the Keynote Speech, and the afternoon Town Hall Meeting/Listening Session.
The Summit is made possible through the generosity of its contributing sponsors: Emory’s Office of Multicultural Programs & Services (venue), Emory’s Office of Community and Diversity (parking), Sodexo (free lunch), Comcast (livestreaming), and Georgia Tech’s Vice President for Institute Diversity.
